Fighting for higher education that works for all.
Scholars For a New Deal for
Higher Education
We are a group of educators and scholars who believe it is time to claim and rebuild our higher education as a true public good for everyone. Generous public investment in and democratic fair governance of our system of higher education are a necessary foundation for a democratic, equitable, and just society.
Please consider becoming a supporting member for a minimum donation of $35. Your generosity helps us continue to publish articles, convene panels and summits, reach new audiences, and change the public conversation about higher education.
Please join as an SFNDHE ally to receive updates. We send occasional emails to share important opportunities and upcoming events.
The Plan
We call for public resources to:
- Offer direct investment directed mostly at public institutions but also for non-elite, not-for-profit private institutions.
- Tie federal investment to reducing student debt and making access to college education affordable and equitable.
- Tie federal investment to supporting instruction and research, benefiting students, researchers, and faculty.
- Tie federal investment to living wages and benefits for all university workers, including adjunct professors and campus support staff, and to a commitment by colleges to stop the endless rounds of layoffs.
Call for Partners
- SFNDHE welcomes Calls for Partners, which we will send to our list of allies and supporting members who work in a range of fields and regions. If you need a co-author, panelist, guest editor, artist, or presenter for a project related to the crisis in higher education, please send your name, email, institution/organization, the partner’s activities or duties, and project description to: aimee.loiselle.uconn @gmail.com.
- SFNDHE also cooperates on workshops, publications, and event series. Please contact us at [email protected] if you would like to talk about these options.
