Scholars For a New Deal for
Higher Education
We are a group of teachers and scholars who believe it it time to claim and rebuild our higher education as a true public good for everyone. Generous government investment in and fair governance of our system of higher education are a necessary foundation for a democratic, equitable, and just society.
Please consider becoming a member of SFNDHE for a minimum donation of $35. Your generosity helps us continue to publish articles, convene panels and summits, reach new audiences, and change the public conversation about higher education.
Our Plan
We call on the federal government to:
- Offer direct investment directed mostly at public institutions but also for non-elite, not-for-profit private institutions.
- Tie federal investment to reducing student debt and making access to college education affordable and equitable.
- Tie federal investment to supporting instruction and research, benefiting students, researchers, and faculty.
- Tie federal investment to living wages and benefits for all university workers, including adjunct professors and campus support staff, and to a commitment by colleges to stop the endless rounds of layoffs.
